Crete in the first places of two top travel guides. Crete is in the first places of Lonely Planet and National Geographic Traveler, the top travel guides worldwide.
Apart from Crete, Mani, Kalymnos, Leros, Meteora, and Delphi were honored in the proposed destinations, while Alonissos stood out in the National Geographic Traveler for the treasures hidden at the bottom of the sea.
In the midst of a pandemic, the two travel platforms and themagazines of their groups, are proposing to their millions of readers worldwide, to keep the dream of exploring alive and to plan their future vacations in “green” and high-quality tasty destinations.
Greece, as a whole, emerged from Lonely Planet as the world’s leading gastronomic destination in sustainable and environmentally friendly nutrition, for 2021.
As columnist Kate Armstrong typically states: “Greeks have been ‘green’ for centuries. The age-old custom of growing vegetables, harvesting olives and preparing virgin olive oil, and cooking with tomatoes, fresh fish and wild herbs is the norm for most, whether they live on an island or on the mainland. “If in a village there is no unique local food from a wild herb or vegetable produced in the area, you can be sure that they will have their own version of a more traditional, national dish.”
Meanwhile, National Geographic columnists describe the underwater region of Alonissos as “a watery wonderland” which will be the front page of the January / February issue.
