The village is a medium-sized, seaside village located 38km east of Chania, 16 km west of Rethymno and 3 km east of Georgioupolis. At the waterfront of the village is a long sandy and partly pebbled beach, stretching from Georgioupolis until the cave of Petres.

During season the village is very well organized and all the necessary touristic facilities are offered to the visitors. There are shops, mini markets, pharmacies, taverns, restaurants and bars in the center of the village.

Off-season the local shops are still open, as well as some bars, and daily bus transfers to the towns of Chania and Rethymno making it a comfortable place to stay all year round.
