The olive mill is, within walking distance to the local coffee shop (kafenio), mini-market and taverns, and with gorgeous views of the lush green valley and the village of Gavalochori.
The village is a peaceful, small, traditional hamlet well-hidden from the massive, mainstream tourism. Here there are some fine examples of traditional architecture in new or renovated buildings; the traditional character of the area has put the village under architectural control and preservation. It is located 25km east of Chania, and 35km west of Rethymno. It is the ideal place to relax, and enjoy the nature while staying with your partner or family. From here you can make everyday excursions to the sandy beaches of Almirida and Kalives (3-4km), or walk in the nature, under the blue sky and the hot sun. Here begins a very nice footpath which in old times connected the village with Gavalochori, which passes through a small gorge, a forest, and the spectacular chapel of Agios Gianis (St. John), build inside a cave. The village is on an altitude of 100m above sea level, with 40 houses in total, population 200 people.
There are two taverns serving excellent food found in the village or go to the nearby village of Vamos (2km) where one find more taverns and coffee shops. If you want to go out during the night for a drink you should try Almirida, Kalives or the Chania old Town (about half an hour by car). For the everyday shopping and general amenities, you should visit Vamos which is the areas administrative centre or one of the two waterfront villages (Kalives and Almirida).
