The findings, based on Google Trends data from January through March, reveal that Greece was the top travel search in nine U.S. states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
So, what’s behind this rising fascination with Greece? For starters, it’s a dreamy mix of postcard-perfect islands, rich culture, ancient ruins, and sun-soaked beaches. Add to that the increasing number of direct flights from major U.S. cities to hotspots like Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini, and it’s easy to see why more Americans are ready to book a ticket.
“Interest from U.S. travelers keeps climbing,” the report notes, pointing to successful tourism campaigns and improved flight connections as major factors.
Travel trends more broadly are looking strong for 2025. Research from Longwoods International shows that 88% of Americans plan to take a trip in the next six months, with global destinations ranging from historic European cities to exotic beach getaways in Asia.
Alongside Greece, other countries drawing high search volumes include the Netherlands, Indonesia, Malaysia, Ireland, Mexico, Morocco, Italy, Croatia, and Austria.
The report ranked interest by looking at search volume scores—ranging from 0 to 100—for 20 top destinations across all 50 states, with Greece coming out on top in more states than any other country.
