Location:

Kolymvari is a large town on the foot of the beautiful Rodopou Peninsula in North West Crete.

It has a large pebbly beach, 400 metres long, which can be affected by the Summer North winds.

Care should also be exercised when swimming as certain wind conditions can cause currents dangerous for swimmers.

The town also has a small harbour.

The Municipality organises an annual environmental educational programme including beach cleaning and tree planting with the support of the Ecological High School of Kolymbari.

The flora of the area is dominated by Tamarisk trees and the rare Sea Lily, a protected species grows here.

The Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta) breeds in the area where its nesting sites are protected. Please respect its breeding sites and take notice of the signs.
