Marousi is situated 13 km (8 mi) northeast of Athens city centre. The municipality has an area of 12.938 km2.[2] The built-up area of Marousi is continuous with those of the neighbouring suburbs Pefki, Kifisia, Vrilissia and Halandri. Within Marousi lies the biggest forest in urban Athens, “Dasos Syngrou”.

The Athens Olympic Sports Complex, the largest sports complex in Greece, built for the 2004 Summer Olympics, is located in the southwestern part of the municipality.

Marousi has two faces: a green area with parks, stores and residencies, and at the same time a commercial zone with offices of multinational companies and malls. In the last years, it has been established as a destination for entertainment.

It is famous for its stores and here you will find areas with a special character, elegant bars for wine, cafes with homemade delicacies, traditional taverns, restaurants with ethnic cuisine and bars with live music.

Marousi is well known for its pottery. The earth of Marousi is very clayey and typically dark red. The clay is what’s left when the limestones and marbles of the Penteli Mountain north of Marousi.

Marousi or Maroussi is a suburb in the northeastern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. Marousi dates back to the era of the ancient Athenian Republic; its ancient name was Athmonon and it represented one of the 10 Athenian sub-cities.
