There are some waterside taverns, a few bars and a couple of hotels. In Almirida you can also find the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 5th century, with mosaics and some pillars.

Vamos is located away from the hustle of the towns and tourists. It is an unspoilt Cretan village with views of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains), and has many traditional buildings. One will find some interesting churches, clearly showing the traditional architecture of the buildings in the area. The hospitality and Cretan way of life is captured in these villages. The area is very scenic, having maintained its traditional character, mainly due to the sympathetic restoration of old buildings.
