Built in the mid-1800s, it was originally used as a kitchen and dining house, where the family stored cheese and wine inside the indoor well, taking advantage of the naturally cool temperature. The villa has a total area of 96.4 sqm, including 54.5 sqm on the lower level with kitchen, living, and dining areas, and 41.8 sqm on the upper level with one bedroom and one bathroom.

Inside, the main living area showcases unique traditional features — an old wooden stove, a large stone chimney, and a well that now serves as a decorative centerpiece, all reminders of the home’s original use. The space also includes an energy-efficient fireplace, A/C, satellite TV, DVD & CD players, and a fully equipped kitchen.

A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor, where a double bedroom with A/C, wooden floors and ceilings, and a shower bathroom with washer and dryer create a warm, rustic atmosphere. A covered 5 sqm veranda, furnished and overlooking the pool, offers breathtaking sea, mountain, and meadow views.

The villa also includes a spacious independent courtyard of 20 sqm, fully furnished with outdoor seating, perfect for relaxation and dining under the Cretan sun. An external staircase provides access to the roof garden, where one can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding nature — from the olive groves to the sea.

This property is part of a traditional resort complex built on a 869.91 sqm plot with a total built area of 520.90 sqm, consisting of one single-storey building, four two-storey buildings, one three-storey building, two storage areas, a covered barbecue area of 50 sqm, and a heated swimming pool of approximately 50 sqm.

Together, these form a unified resort of five autonomous maisonettes (each one in a separate building) and a mini-market, all surrounded by peaceful gardens and authentic Cretan architecture.

Furnished with handmade furniture, antique décor, and folk art details, this villa embodies the essence of Cretan tradition — warm, genuine, and deeply connected to the land.

Located close to Almyrida and Kalyves beaches, and within easy reach of Chania city and the international airport, this villa offers both privacy and easy accessibility.

Whether used as a boutique hospitality villa, a holiday retreat, or a private residence, this home represents a rare opportunity to own a historic piece of Crete, lovingly restored and ready to welcome its next chapter.

Traditional Villa for sale in Apokoronas Crete. Location Information:

The district of Apokoronas in the north-eastern corner of the Chania prefecture and at the foot of the White Mountains is one of the greenest regions of Crete and contains some interesting sights, such as Lake Kournas, the island’s only freshwater lake, picturesque villages, and small beach resorts.

Aptera
The ruins of ancient Aptera are located on a hill above the bay of Souda. Founded in the 7th century BC, Aptera was one of the largest city-states in Crete and was continuously inhabited until an earthquake destroyed it in the 7th century AD.
A monastery was established there in the 12th century.

Most of this very large site has not been excavated yet but you can see an impressive Roman cistern, a Greek temple, various other buildings, and massive defensive walls. At the north-western end, there is a Turkish fortress with superb views of Souda Bay.

The archaeological site of Aptera is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8 am to 2.30 pm and entrance is free.

Kalyves, Almyrida and Plaka
Located on the coast in Souda Bay, Kalyves is a large village with a nice sandy beach and has been attracting more and more tourists in the last few years.

Most of it is fairly low key and you still get the sense that you are in a Cretan village.

A little further to the east, Almyrida has seen a number of tourist developments as well. Its sandy beach with shallow waters makes it a good destination for families with small children but it can easily get quite crowded. Above Almyrida, the small village of Plaka offers stunning views of Souda Bay and the White Mountains.

Georgioupolis and Lake Kournas
Georgioupolis, at the eastern end of the district of Apokoronas, used to be a sleepy little fishing village but its long (9 km) sandy beach has seen a massive development in hotels.

Lake Kournas is located 3 km inland from Georgioupolis at the foot of the mountain and is the only freshwater lake in the whole of Crete. This makes it a popular “exotic” weekend destination for the Cretans.

The landscape in Kournas, especially if you pick a grey day, is reminiscent of a mountain lake in the Alps and you lose the sense of being on Crete. Unusual!

Vamos
Vamos is the capital of the district. In 1995 a group of villagers started a project to preserve the traditional way of life of Vamos.

With funds from the European Union, they started a project to showcase the crafts and products of the region and restored old stone buildings using traditional materials and crafts, and turned them into guest houses.

Vrysses
Vrysses (or Vrisses) is a new village dating back to 1925. It is located on the road which links the north coast with Sfakia.

There is not much to do in Vrysses but the river that flows through its center makes it a nice place to escape the summer heat, in the shade of the giant plane trees. Vrysses is also famous for its excellent yogurt.
